A 31-year-old Wichita man died Thursday night on I-135 after another vehicle hit his from the rear, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper reported.

Uriel Orosco died at the scene. The 28-year-old woman in his vehicle was taken to Wesley Medical Center for suspected minor injuries, the trooper wrote in a crash report. The other driver was not injured.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. on I-135 north near 13th Street.

Orosco, who was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, was slowing down and had his emergency lights activated, the trooper wrote. An 18-year-old Bel Aire man driving a 2013 Dodge Journey was changing lanes, “failed to see (Orosco) slowing down” and rear-ended the car, the trooper wrote.

The Journey overturned and came to rest in the lane the driver had started in, the trooper wrote. The Sonata “rotated counterclockwise & came to rest ... against the ... bridge wall.”

It’s not clear from the report why Orosco had his emergency lights on.
