Updated: Man’s body found in south Wichita lake had been there days, official says
The body of a man who had been in the water “at least several days” was found in a lake along the south Wichita/Haysville line on Saturday, Sedgwick County Fire District 1 Division Chief Justin Moritz said.
Around 2:20 p.m., a woman called 911 to report seeing a body floating in the lake 1100 block of East 63rd South, near the Kansas Turnpike. First-responders used a boat to reach the man in the middle of the multiple-acre lake, Moritz said, adding that the man was fully clothed and there weren’t any initial signs of trauma.
Moritz said the woman’s home is the only one on the lake and that he assumes the lake is part of her property. It’s on the south side of 63rd.
A Sedgwick County Emergency Communications supervisor had previously said the body was found in a lake that is surrounded by homes. The lake on the north side of the road has multiple homes around it.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death.
