Child taken to hospital after being locked in hot car
A child was transported to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition after being pulled from a locked car Wednesday evening.
A Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher said fire crews responded to a call of a child in a locked vehicle at the Dillons store at 21st and Amidon at around 7:30 p.m.
Wichita Fire Battalion Chief Andy Cole said the mother of the child arrived at the vehicle at about the same time fire crews got there. She unlocked the vehicle and got the child out, he said.
By 8:15 p.m., no emergency vehicles remained on the scene.
The temperature in Wichita at 7:30 p.m. was 91 degrees, with a heat index of 95 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
