Wichita police say woman’s death near Big Ditch being ‘investigated as suspicious’

Wichita police again on Tuesday offered few new details on the body of a Wichita woman who was found dead last Friday afternoon, next to the Big Ditch near Central and Ridge Road.

“It is still being investigated as a suspicious death,” said Lt. James Espinoza, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department. “When you work something like that – like that woman, where she was found, you have to investigate it thoroughly.” He said police must contact people she knew and look at every angle.

The woman, 42, was found beneath a bridge over a drainage area near the Big Ditch. A passerby called shortly after 3 p.m. Friday after seeing what appeared to be a woman floating in the water.
