Police release name and details in fatal NW Wichita accident involving a car and SUV
Police have released the name of the 50-year-old Wichita man who died Friday in a northwest Wichita accident.
Nicky Ball’s vehicle was hit by the driver of an SUV at 18th and Sheridan, Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said, adding that the intersection has no stop sign. Ball was found unresponsive when first responders arrived. He died at the scene.
The accident happened around 4:40 p.m. Ball was headed south on Sheridan in a Toyota Avalon and was hit by a 21-year-old woman driving in a Suzuki Grand Vitara headed west on 18th, Rebolledo said. She was taken to a hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Rebolledo said speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
This was Wichita’s 37th fatal crash and 40th fatality this year, Rebolledo said. That’s the second-highest number of vehicle deaths since available WPD records going back to 2001. The highest was 47 deaths last year.
