Sedgwick County deputy injured after pulling in front of car at K-254 and Webb: official

A Sedgwick County deputy had minor injuries after he pulled in front of a car and was hit Thursday morning just north of Wichita, according to Lt. Benjamin Blick of the sheriff’s office.

EMS took the deputy to a hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The other driver, a 42-year-old Hutchinson man, chose not to go to the hospital, Blick said.

The accident happened around 6:50 a.m. at K-254 and Webb while the deputy was responding to a call about a pedestrian in the road. No pedestrian was found, Blick said. The deputy stopped at a stop sign and then went to turn left from northbound Webb to westbound K-254.

“He failed to see the eastbound Chevy sedan and turned in front of it,” Blick said in an email. “Traffic on K-254 at Webb is not controlled by any signs or signals, only stop signs for traffic on Webb Road.”

The speed limit on K-254 is 65 mph, Blick said, but it’s not clear how fast the driver was going at impact. Both vehicles had to be towed, he said.
