Caretaker hospitalized after being attacked with cane, golf club

Police are looking for a man suspected of attacking his father’s caregiver with a golf club and cane late Tuesday night.

The 49-year-old woman was brought by private vehicle to a local hospital at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday with several injuries to her head and face, Lt. James Espinoza said. She is the live-in caretaker of the suspect’s 89-year-old father.

She told police the 51-year-old son, who occasionally lives at the house in the 1200 block of North Spruce, assaulted her with the cane and golf club when she would not give him a Vision card.

“He wanted to take money off of it to purchase narcotics,” Espinoza said the caretaker told police.

He left the house after the attack. The woman is in serious condition at Wesley Medical Center, suffering from several cuts and bruises following the assault.
