Man robbed after getting cash from ATM

A Wichita man told police he was robbed early Sunday after refusing to buy crack cocaine.

The 59-year-old man told officers that a 30-year-old man came to his apartment in the 2600 block of North Grove and asked him if he wanted to buy $40 worth of crack, Lt. James Espinoza said. The man said he didn’t, but then he drove to an ATM at 21st and Grove, withdrew $40, and returned home.

When he got there, the seller brandished a handgun, took the $40 and left, he told police.

Despite the circumstances, the victim insisted “he did not intend to buy crack from that suspect,” Espinoza said.
