Slide the City sells out; other events – including watching sliders – on tap downtown
Slide the City, the slip-and-slide that has been set up downtown for the city’s Independence Day Block Party, is sold out, the city park and recreation director said Saturday morning.
The 2,000 spots on the slide, which runs on the Lewis Street Bridge just west of the Boathouse to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, are full, the director, Troy Houtman, said. But he said some people who show up to buy a ticket may be able to get in, depending on whether everyone else who has a ticket shows up.
Either way, it will be fun to watch others slide, as well as to take in the free events the city has going on downtown today: food trucks and a family zone with inflatables, games, activities and skateboarding at Lawrence-Dumont, and a beer garden and food on the Hyatt lawn, where there will be a free country concert with Jessica Lynn at 3 p.m., and Lucky People will play at 7. Fireworks cap the evening from the west bank of the river at 10 p.m.
There will be a baseball game at Lawrence-Dumont at 6:30 p.m. between US9 Armed Forces and the Puerto Rico Collegiate Baseball Club. General-admission tickets are $7 at the gate or www.selectaseat.com.
The slide runs from 2 to 7 p.m. (plus 1 to 2 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. for those who have unlimited-slide tickets).
