Public funeral service, visitation for longtime Kansas representative set for September

Funeral services for longtime Kansas state Rep. Gail Finney will be held in September.

Gail Alexandria Finney was born on Aug. 16, 1959 and died on Aug. 20, 2022. She is remembered by colleagues and friends as a fighter for African Americans and the marginalized.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Saint Mark United Methodist Church, 1525 N. Lorraine, her niece, Sara Finney-Tolson, told The Eagle.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at the same location.

The general public is invited the attend. Masks will be required at both services, Finney-Tolson said.

Finney is survived by her husband, Jerrold Finney Sr; sons Jerrold Finney Jr., Jason (Cheryal) Finney Sr. and Shaun Finney; grandchildren Sharrell, Jayden, Jason Jr., DeMarcus, Jarelle, Jakobe and Kayson. She is preceded in death by her mother, Julia Martin, and stepfather, Richard Martin Sr.
