A 10-year-old boy had non-life-threatening injuries after being accidentally shot by his father Tuesday night in south Wichita, according to Wichita police.

Around 9:50 p.m., police responded to a shooting call in the 3300 block of South Fern, which is near the corner of 31st Street South and Seneca. Police found the boy with a gunshot wound to his leg, according to police spokesperson Paul Cruz. He was taken to a hospital but is expected to survive.

Cruz said a 46-year-old man, who is the boy’s father, was “manipulating the gun when he fired the gun. The round went through the wall and struck the 10-year-old male who was in another room of the residence.”

Police are still investigating the shooting.
