Here’s what you need to know about Wichita’s weekend highway closure on I-135
Wichita commuters will have to contend with a highway closure on southbound I-135 at the North Junction this weekend while bridge beams are installed over traffic lanes.
The closure will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and end by 6 p.m. Sunday, according to a release from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The closure on southbound I-135 will stretch from the exit ramp to southbound I-235 to just south of the westbound K-254 overpass to southbound I-235.
Southbound I-135 traffic will be detoured onto southbound I-235 to Broadway to northbound I-235 to southbound I-135.
The Eagle reported in January that the projected cost of fixing the North Junction freeway bottleneck had risen from $30 million to $36 million. Most of the project is being paid for by KDOT, but the city of Wichita and Sedgwick County are responsible for 25% of costs.
