Wichita schools’ summer food program aims to serve all kids free meals

The Wichita school district doesn’t want any kids going hungry this summer and will serve free meals to any children who show up to eat.

The district will have free breakfasts and lunches for children through age 18 this summer at 48 locations.

All sites participating in the summer food program will give each child a boxed lunch as a dine-in or to-go option and a to-go breakfast for the following day.

Free meals are available for all children — including those not enrolled in the school system. There are no reservations required or paper work to be filled out.

Each meal will follow USDA nutrition guidelines.

Menus are subject to change. However, tentative menus are available online through the school system system.

Adults who want to receive a meal through the program can purchase breakfast for $2.75 and lunch for $4.75. Exact change is required.

The program will start on Tuesday and end on July 29.

Serving days and times of operation vary at each site.
