Couple from Greenwood County wins $9.85 million lottery jackpot
A couple from Piedmont in Greenwood County won nearly $10 million in Wednesday night’s Hot Lotto drawing, according to a news release Thursday from lottery officials.
Stephen and Tana Harrod had the single ticket that matched the winning numbers in Wednesday’s drawing.
“When Steve called me this morning after he checked our ticket at the store I didn’t believe him,” Tana Harrod said in the news release. “It’s unreal!”
The Hot Lotto jackpot is an all-cash, lump-sum prize with all state and federal withholding taxes paid for the winner. The Harrods won $9.85 million.
According to the news release, the Harrods have five children and four grandchildren. Both work multiple jobs and said they plan to continue to work. They plan to buy a new vehicle and a new lawn mower, the release said, and put money away for college for their children and grandchildren.
