There was an explosion at a gas plant near Haven, about 20 miles northwest of Wichita, a Reno County dispatch supervisor confirmed Thursday afternoon.

The explosion was first reported at 1:13 p.m. on Thursday.

Emergency crews, including the Reno County Sheriff’s Office and the Haven police and fire departments, are on the scene. The Kansas Highway Patrol has blocked off K-96 between Haven and Yoder and drivers are advised to avoid that area, the dispatcher said.

The supervisor added that everyone at the plant has been accounted for.

The facility began operations in 2015 as a natural gas liquids extraction plant, in which it takes in natural gas and drops the temperature to 150 degrees below zero to separate out the natural gas liquids – ethane, butane, propane and natural gasoline – from the methane, the main ingredient of natural gas.
