One person dead after grass fire in Goddard, Sedgwick County dispatch says

One person has died following a grass fire near Lake Afton on Sunday morning, Sedgwick County dispatch confirmed.

A dispatch supervisor said a call came in around 9:28 a.m. about a grass fire in the 4300 block of S Cedar Lake Road, which is near the intersection of S. 231st Street W. and W. 39th Street S. in Goddard.

The Wichita Fire Department said in a tweet that a vehicle was on fire, and one person was found dead near the vehicle.

Gov. Laura Kelly issued a state of disaster emergency on Sunday because of increased fire danger across the state, a state news release said.
