The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified 6-year-old Reagan Sampson of Wichita as the person killed in Friday’s fatal crash on the Kansas Turnpike.

The accident happened at around 8:25 a.m. near mile marker 45. The KHP said 28-year-old Tori Hornecker of Wichita was heading southbound on I-35 in a 2012 Dodge Durango when she “left the roadway to the right” and struck the rear left corner of a Peterbilt semi truck legally parked on the right outside shoulder of the highway.

The front and rear passenger side of the SUV hit the semi’s trailer, the KHP said in a crash report. Regan, one of two passengers, was ejected from the Durango, the report says. She died at the scene.

Hornecker and her other passenger, an 8-year-old boy, were taken to a Wichita hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The driver of the semi, a 39-year-old Oklahoma man, was not hurt, the KHP said.
