One person dies, two hurt in rural Sedgwick County, Kansas accident

A 36-year-old man died and two people were injured Friday morning after the man ran a stop sign and was hit by another driver in rural Sedgwick County, an official said.

The accident happened at 9:09 a.m. at the intersection of 295th Street West and 21st Street North, which is west of Wichita and just north of Garden Plain. The driver of the Toyota Camry died at the scene. A passenger in his vehicle, a 38-year-old woman, and a 19-year-old man driving a Ford Focus were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver who died was headed north on 295th and failed to yield to the teen driver headed east on 21st. The teen hit the Camry on the driver’s side door, according to Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Benjamin Blick.

“Stop signs are posted at the intersection for north and southbound traffic on 295th Street West,” Blick said in a news release. “The circumstances of the collisions are under investigation.”
