Two people died Sunday after the Ford Mustang they were in hit a highway guardrail, went into a ditch and rolled several times in a field in Norton County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Michael J. Dela Vega, 37, of Norton, lost control while driving the car shortly after midnight. He was driving west on Kansas Highway 383 “at a high rate of speed,” the report says.

After rolling in the field, the car landed on its top. Dela Vega and his passenger, 44-year-old Andrew S. Campbell, of Colby, were killed, the highway patrol said.

The crash happened at K-383 milepost 93 at about 12:09 a.m. Sunday.

Norton County is located in northwest Kansas along the Nebraska border.
