The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that one of the vehicles crossed the center line and hit the other. When deputies arrived at the crash site, they found the first vehicle engulfed in flames and both of its occupants dead.

Their names were being withheld Monday until their families could be notified about the deaths, the release says.

The driver whose vehicle was hit, 69-year-old James W. Larcum of Eureka, also died at the scene, according to the news release.

The collision was reported at 11:45 p.m.
