Toddler hospitalized after being hit in face with can of lemonade

A 20-month-old toddler has been hospitalized with a possible facial fracture after he was hit by a thrown can of lemonade Monday morning, police said.

An EMS crew was sent to a house in the 1600 block of North Kenmar at about 9:45 a.m. Monday, where the crew found the boy with a cut and bruising on his face, Lt. James Espinoza said. That address is southwest of 17th and Oliver.

The child’s 23-year-old father and 22-year-old mother said she had asked for the last can of lemonade in the house. The husband threw the can underhanded about 25 feet toward his wife, Espinoza said. The can struck a door frame and then hit the toddler in the face.

“This was not an intentional incident,” Lt. James Espinoza said. “At this time, we believe it was an accident.”
