One section of a 10-foot-high wall to enclose a monastery of cloistered Carmelite nuns on North Woodlawn has recently been poured, and a golf tournament Oct. 27 will be held to help raise money to continue the project.

The Seventh Annual Benefit Golf Tournament will be at noon Oct. 27 at Willowbend Golf Club.

The nuns spend much of their time praying for the community, and they rely on donations along with making granola and maple almonds to help support themselves.

A wall will eventually enclose the 40 acres where the nuns live and hope to build a monastery. At this point, the first section, facing Woodlawn, has been done.

The entry fee for the tournament is $125 a person, or $500 for a team. For information about the tournament, contact Jeff Dahlgren at 316-630-8100 or jcdahlgr@twgfirm.com.
