Gunfire hits, business, cars, house east of Old Town

Police are investigating a drive-by shooting near Old Town that saw bullets strike a business, nearby vehicles and a house early Tuesday morning.

The shots were reported at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday by an officer sitting in the 300 block of North Mosley, Lt. James Espinoza said. He went to investigate and found that an awning business had been hit several times by bullets in the 300 block of North Wabash.

Vehicles parked in front of the business were also struck, Espinoza said, and one bullet struck a house in the 1400 block of East Third Street. There were five people in the house at the time, Espinoza said, including four children. They were not injured.

Police aren’t sure if the business was targeted or if “it was just someone wanting to shoot a gun,” Espinoza said.
