Passenger dies, driver in hospital after early morning wreck in Wichita, police say

A 33-year-old male passenger died after the driver of a car lost control and hit multiple trees in northwest Wichita, according to the Wichita police.

The 29-year-old woman driving the Nissan Altima was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police were called to a single-vehicle wreck at around 2:45 a.m. Saturday in 9600 block of West 37th Street near Maize. EMS workers were unsuccessful in attempts to save the man, officer Kevin Wheeler said in a news release. The names of driver and passenger have not yet been released.

The accident is under investigation.

Wichita has had 25 fatal wrecks in 2020.
