Two people help save man’s life following northwest Wichita crash

Two people potentially saved a life after they saw a man become pinned under an SUV in a crash Wednesday night in the 1500 block of North McLean, Officer Charley Davidson said.

The two “observed what had happened” while they were headed north on McLean, Davidson said. The two used a car jack to lift up the SUV and pulled the man out from under it. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At around 5:40 p.m., the SUV’s driver was headed south on McLean, near 13th, when he lost control and hit the curb, crossed the road and hit another curb and then a light pole before flipping, Davidson said. The man was ejected from the 1997 Chevrolet Trailblazer and pinned under the vehicle, Davidson said, adding that speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

“The Wichita Police Department does thank and appreciate the quick actions of these two citizens that happened to be in this area, that witnessed it,” Davidson said. “And their quick actions helped save a life.”
