Wichita police identify motorcyclist killed in crash west of downtown

Police identified on Tuesday the 40-year-old Wichita man killed in a motorcycle crash with an SUV Monday night as Quincy Thomas.

The crash was reported at 6:41 p.m. in the 500 block of North McLean near Seneca. Thomas was riding a Suzuki motorcycle south on McLean, where the road bends east-west, and a 77-year-old man was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe north on Vine, police said. The SUV driver was turning north onto McLean when the accident happened, officer Charley Davidson said.

Thomas was ejected. He was unresponsive when police arrived and pronounced dead at the scene, Davidson said.

“Thomas is believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision,” Davidson said.

The 77-year-old man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Davidson said it was the 17th fatal accident of the year, the seventh involving a motorcycle.
