Unfortunately, Shafer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, at approximately 8:34 p.m.”

Monday:

A man died Monday evening after he was crushed by a press brake machine that had fallen on him, officials said.

Emergency crews were dispatched at around 8:23 p.m. to a home accident in the 1600 block of East 87th Street South, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Tim Myers said in a news release. They found a 51-year-old man pinned by a piece of equipment in the backyard of a home.

The man was unconscious and had suffered major trauma to his back and torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The man and his two teenage sons were in the process of moving a large press brake from a flatbed trailer,” Myers said. “The press brake fell from the trailer pushing the man to the ground; crushing him beneath it. The press brake was lifted off the man, but he unfortunately died as a result of his injuries.”
