Sedgwick County officials and leaders from Fire District 1 broke ground on Monday for a new fire station in Andale.

The new station at at 6331 N. 247th St. W. will replace the current Station 31 housed at a Sedgwick County Public Works yard. The new building will be about 10,000 square feet and will have four bays for public safety vehicles. The old station is a 2,400 square foot building that has only one bay, which forces some trucks to be left outside and unprotected from the weather.

The new fire station has a cost of about $2 million and the project is expected to be completed in May.
