Early morning fire destroys business near Old Town, official says
A Wichita business near Old Town was destroyed in a fire Wednesday morning, according to the Wichita Fire Department.
Capt. Kelly Zane said firefighters were called at around 2 a.m. to the building at 1418 Mathewson, near Central and Cleveland. Firefighters found smoke and fire coming from the roof. A couple of the walls had fallen and the contents were destroyed, Zane said.
The damage was estimated at $200,000 for the structure and another $100,000 for the contents, he said.
“There is just nothing left to look at really,” he said, adding the cause of the fire is undetermined.
The business, Second II None bike club and mechanic shop, was separated by drywall from four other businesses, Zane said. The adjacent business had fire damage to the roof, he said.
