Need help with food? Get free boxes of milk, cheese and meat Friday at Towne East
Catholic Charities will be passing out boxes of free food — including milk, cheese, yogurt, butter and meat — to families in need Friday morning in the parking lot of Towne East Square, 7700 E. Kellogg Dr. in Wichita.
The giveaway, called “Fruitful Friday - Farmers to Families Food Box Program,” runs from 9 a.m. to noon, or while supplies last. The nonprofit in partnership with other area organizations plans to distribute more than 1,100 boxes on a first-come, first-served basis.
There will be three different boxes available: A dairy products box, a protein box with hot dogs and sausage, and a meal pack filled with beans, rice, soups, pasta and more. People can take all three.
“Anyone who is interested in receiving a free, family-sized food box ... should plan to attend,” Catholic Charities spokeswoman Mary Beth Chambers said in a news release.
Distribution will be in the mall’s northwest parking lot, located off of Douglas Avenue and Towne East Drive. There is no application process to receive a box, or proof of address or ID required. For more information, go to www.catholiccharitieswichita.org.
The “Farmers to Families Food Box Program” was created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to help distribute surplus meat, produce and dairy products from farms that have been significantly impacted by pandemic-related food service business closures to needy individuals.
