Autopsy planned for body found in Ninnescah River in northeast Sumner County
Sumner County authorities still don’t know much about a body found in the Ninnescah River over the weekend.
Deputies went to the area of 130th Avenue North and North West Road around 1:30 p.m. Sunday after someone spotted a body in the water there, the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Authorities were able to pull the body from the water, which was west of the intersection, with the help of the Mulvane Fire Department and the Derby Water Rescue Team.
Authorities say the condition of the body left them unable to say for sure how the person died or whether the body is male or female. The discovery was made in the northeast part of Sumner County, west of the Kansas Turnpike.
“Due to the heat, the body has started to deteriorate and we do not want to make any speculations,” the news release said.
An autopsy will be completed at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center in Wichita. The investigation into the death is ongoing. Authorities said more information will be released as it becomes available.
