Man’s body pulled from the Arkansas River near downtown

Update Friday:

The Wichita Police Department says a man who was pulled from the Arkansas River on Thursday was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Officer Kevin Wheeler said the several people reported seeing a body floating in the river at around 4:40 p.m. in the 100 block of South McLean, near Harry.

Original Thursday:

Emergency crews are responding to a reported submersion along the Arkansas River near downtown Wichita.

The original 911 call came at 4:41 p.m. and reported a submersion in the 600 block of North Seneca, near Seneca and McLean, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. The supervisor said the patient’s condition could not be released.

The Wichita Police Department is investigating.

Emergency radio traffic indicated a body was pulled from the water near Douglas and McLean. A Sedgwick County coroner van was seen at the scene.
