Child dies in possible drowning, Arkansas City police say

A child died in a possible drowning Thursday in Arkansas City.

Emergency crews were called at around 5:04 p.m. to a report of a possible drowning in the 800 block of South Boyer Road, the Arkansas City Police Department said in a news release Thursday night. The first responders found CPR was being administered to a child, and paramedics took over the life-saving efforts.

The child was taken to South Central Kansas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing. Additional information, including the age of the child and the circumstances of the possible drowning, has not been released.
