One dead and one injured in Haysville house fire, chief says
One person is dead and another injured after a house fire on Saturday afternoon in Haysville, officials said.
Arriving firefighters were told one person was possibly still inside when they responded to the call at 4:08 p.m. in the 100 block of Stearns. They found a man not breathing in the living room, Sedgwick County Fire Department Division Chief Carl Cox said.
“Resuscitation efforts were attempted, but they were unsuccessful,” Cox said, adding the man lived at the home.
A woman who either attempted to help rescue the man or put out the fire was transported to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in serious condition for burns, Cox said.
“All indications are it was an accidental fire,” Cox said.
The fire was mostly contained to the living room where the fire originated, Cox said. There was smoke damage throughout the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
