The Sedgwick County Zoo has closed until further notice, citing ongoing concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“Our primary obligation is to provide for the care of our animals,” the zoo said in a Friday news release. “Our core staff will continue to provide care for our animals and operate the critical systems of the Zoo.”

The Centers for Disease Control says there is no evidence the virus can be transferred from humans to animals, the release says. Closing will allow the zoo to reduce its employees to exposure and “conserve essential supplies that may not be readily available during this outbreak.”
