Seven hurt in school bus accident on Pawnee in west Wichita
Seven students received minor injuries following a school bus accident in west Wichita on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
A Goddard school bus was traveling west on Pawnee shortly before 8:30 a.m. when it drifted off the road onto the north shoulder in the 14000 block of West Pawnee, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Lt. Lin Dehning said. The driver allowed the bus to continue into the ditch.
There were 32 children aboard the bus, ranging from kindergarteners to fourth graders. Dane Baxa, spokesman for the Goddard district, said the bus was en route to Amelia Earhart Elementary School.
Emergency personnel on the scene waited for parents to arrive to decide whether to take children to the hospital, an emergency dispatcher said.
The accident remains under investigation, Dehning said.
