Pedestrian hit and killed by car in early-morning crash on Kansas highway

A man walking on a highway in southern Kansas was killed early Tuesday morning when a car crashed into him, state troopers said.

Emergency crews were called at around 6:20 a.m. to an injury accident on U.S. 160, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report. Investigators determined a pedestrian was on the road when he was hit by a 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified in the KHP report as Joseph Edward Franklin Darling, 48, of Atoka. The 65-year-old man driving the Chevy had no apparent injuries.

The wreck happened about half a mile east of Broadway, or about a mile east of I-35 and two miles from Wellington.
