Child seriously injured after being hit near Wichita park, first responders say
A child was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured Saturday afternoon near Central Riverside Park, according to a police dispatcher and first responders at the scene.
The vehicle was traveling about 25 to 30 mph when the collision occurred, causing the child to “fly about 10 feet,” the first responders said over the scanner, apparently describing what they had heard from witnesses.
The call came in at around 12:20 p.m. to the park, at 720 N. Nims, the dispatcher said. The dispatcher said the child was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The dispatcher had no other details about the crash.
The child suffered cuts, including to the head, but didn’t lose consciousness, the first responders reported over the scanner.
