Jan. 19-25 inspections: Roach in cookie shop, ‘foul-smelling liquid’ in ice cream maker

Editor’s note: This year, The Eagle is planning to post out-of-compliance restaurant inspections weekly.

Health inspectors found roaches in a mall cookie shop, “foul-smelling liquid” in an ice cream machine and other violations at 14 Sedgwick County businesses deemed out of compliance between Jan. 19 and Jan. 25.

A list of the businesses, which include a popular Old Town bistro and a south side BBQ joint, appears below with a summary of the problems Kansas Department of Agriculture inspectors noted on their reports.

Violations are common and usually fixed immediately. Businesses fall out of compliance when they have a certain number or type of violation or ones that can’t be corrected right away like a plumbing issue. Examples of violations include serving food that’s more than a week old, pest infestations and employees mishandling food.

For more details on last week’s violators, search The Eagle’s non-compliant inspection database. If you want to see all inspections, simply hit “Search.” The most recent data uploaded appears first. You can search past inspections by name, address, date or violation using keywords like “roach” or “mold.”
