Burlington man killed, two people hurt in Christmas Eve crash in Coffey County

A 58-year-old Burlington man died and two others were hurt in a Christmas Eve crash in Coffey County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Roy Coleman was a passenger in a 2005 Ford pickup that skidded off of Lynx Road just outside of Burlington at about 3:20 p.m. and rolled several times. A crash report says the 24-year-old Waverly man driving the pickup truck lost control “for an unknown reason,” causing the Ford to skid sideways.

The truck drove off the road “completely sideways,” hit the edge of a ditch, “vaulted, struck a fence, and rolled several times.” It stopped upside down in a field, according to the report.

The crash killed Coleman and injured the driver and another passenger, a 49-year-old Burlington man. The driver and the passenger were hospitalized with suspected serious and suspected minor injuries, the report said.
