Walk With Wildlife canceled; Kids Fishing Clinic postponed to June 20
Due to already soggy conditions, and near sure-thing chances of heavy rain overnight, Saturday’s annual Walk With Wildlife at the Great Plains Nature Center has been canceled. Jim Mason, Nature Center director, said it will not be rescheduled for this year. Mason said concerns with parking in grassy fields, and access to some of the many wildlife-related stations, lead to his decision Friday morning.
Saturday’s Wichita Eagle Kids Fishing Clinic, which is held in conjunction with the Walk With Wildlife at Chisholm Creek Park, will be postponed. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 20. All times assigned to registered children will remain the same. Those who need to cancel time slots are asked to do so by e-mailing psmith@wichitaeagle.com. Those wanting to register children can use the same e-mail address, listing the child’s name and age.
With more than 100 volunteers, and dozens of displays to be assembled, Mason felt it important to get word of the cancellation out as soon as possible. This was to be the 31st year for the Walk With Wildlife. Mason said it is the third time it has been canceled because of weather.
