Goodland woman, 75, killed in crash with semi in northwest Kansas

A 75-year-old Goodland woman died Tuesday after her minivan and a semi crashed in Sherman County about 10 miles north of Goodland.

Shirley A. Barnhart was southbound on K-27 at about 6:25 p.m. when a semi headed in the opposite direction crossed the center line and sideswiped her 2007 Chevy Uplander, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report. After the vehicles collided, the semi tipped over into a ditch on the west side of the road, the report says.

The 42-year-old Ohio man driving the semi, Richard H. Steed, was hospitalized with possible minor injuries. Barnhart was killed.

It’s unclear why the semi crossed into oncoming traffic, the KHP said in the report.
