Sedgwick County Jail inmate who died Monday identified
The inmate who died in the Sedgwick County Jail on Monday morning has been identified as Clay Blades.
Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter said Blades, 55, was found unresponsive in his cell and died despite attempts to revive him at the jail and later at a local hospital. A preliminary autopsy indicated Blades died of coronary complications.
“He was being treated for a previous medical issue,” Easter said.
Authorities said he was found in his cell at 7:40 a.m. and was pronounced dead two hours later at a local hospital.
Blades had been incarcerated since last December for a felony and had been an inmate on multiple previous occasions, Easter said.
He is the third inmate to die the jail this year, Easter said. An inmate died of cancer in January and a 25-year-old inmate died in February. Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports to determine the cause of his death, Easter said. He was being treated for a medical condition prior to his death.
