19-year-old man dies after car smashes into light pole, Wichita police say
A 19-year-old man was killed this weekend after the car he was driving left the road and smashed into a light pole, according to a statement from the Wichita Police Department.
Officers were called to the single-vehicle crash at 9th and McLean just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Officer Kevin Wheeler wrote in the statement. There, they found the silver Buick had rammed into the pole at an intersection adjacent to the Arkansas River.
The driver was taken to a hospital, where he later died from crash-related injuries, Wheeler said. No one else was inside the car, which was traveling north on McLean, according to the preliminary investigation.
“At this time, it is too early to say what led to this accident, but it remains under investigation,” Wheeler said about two hours after the crash.
No other information had been released by police as of Sunday morning.
