Man found dead in pond apparently fell in while fishing, Wichita police say

Wichita police identified the man who drowned at a pond as 71-year-old Robert Dashiell.

“This is believed to be a fishing accident or a possible medical condition,” Officer Kevin Wheeler said in a news release.

Wichita police are investigating the death of a man who they suspect fell into a pond while fishing.

Emergency crews were called at around 4:34 p.m. Wednesday to a reported submersion in the 3200 block of North Toben, near K-96 and Webb, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the drowning report.

Police Sgt. James Bray said an approximately 70-year-old man was found dead in a pond. He had apparently fallen into the pond while fishing, police said.
