One person is dead and another was critically hurt after a one-vehicle crash on the Kansas Turnpike near El Dorado, authorities said.

The wreck was reported at around 2:59 p.m. Thursday on I-35 at around mile marker 69, about two miles south of El Dorado, a Butler County dispatch supervisor said. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second person was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Investigators determined that a 2004 Ford Econoline van went off the roadway then over-corrected, reentered the roadway and rolled several times before landing in a ditch, a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report states.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers wrote in the report. He was identified as Bryan Garcia-Olvera, 22, of Wichita. A 29-year-old Wichita man who was a passenger in the van was taken to Wesley Medical Center.
