A high-speed collision on Broadway at 13th Street on Tuesday afternoon flipped one car on its roof and smashed the front end of another, blocking the boulevard in both directions .
But three people — the drivers of both cars and a passenger — were not seriously injured in the 2 p.m. accident and none were expected to be transported to the hospital, said Wichita police Sgt. E.D. Brower.
He said it was not immediately clear what happened to cause the accident, but it appeared that one driver had run a red light and the two cars collided, he said. Investigators couldn’t immediately tell which driver was at fault.
It’s rare to have a vehicle rollover on Broadway and Tuesday’s accident drew a heavy response of police and firefighters.
The flipped car landed in the middle of the street and traffic was shut down in both directions for the cleanup.
Brower attributed the lack of serious injury to the safety features of newer cars and that everyone in the accident was wearing their seat belt.
