Public event honoring late WSU president John Bardo set for May 9

A public event celebrating the life of late Wichita State president John Bardo has been scheduled for May 9 on campus.

The Celebration of Life event will take place from 3-4 p.m. in the Shirley Beggs Ballroom of the Rhatigan Student Center at WSU, 1845 Fairmount St. in Wichita. The program will include speakers and video presentations about Bardo’s “impact as a cultural, educational and economic driver,” according to a university news release. A dessert and ice cream reception will follow.

The event will be live-streamed on WSU’s Facebook and YouTube pages. The hour-long program is part of a series of events honoring Bardo’s life May 6 through 10.

Bardo died March 12 following a lengthy illness. He was WSU’s 13th president.
