Wichita ceremony set for Mental Illness Awareness Week

Wichita-area mental health groups are sponsoring a candlelight ceremony to usher in Mental Illness Awareness Week, Oct. 5 through Oct. 11.

The ceremony and related activities will be Oct. 5 at Dugan Gorges Conference Center at Newman University, 3100 McCormick Ave, in Wichita, according to an e-mail publicizing the event.

There will be a reception and exhibits from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 5, followed by a program and ceremony from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Bill MacPhee, an expert on recovery who has dealt with schizophrenia, will speak, according to a flier from the local unit of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
