A federal agency is conducting an investigation into whether job safety rules were violated at the north Wichita site where a 22-year-old worker was killed this week.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is trying to determine the circumstances surrounding Tony Losey’s death, Judy Freeman, the area director for OSHA, said Wednesday.

She estimated it will be several weeks before information on the industrial accident is made public.

“We can’t comment on the details now,” Freeman said.

Losey was killed instantly Tuesday when a tank weighing an estimated 12,000 pounds rolled on top of him, Wichita police have said. The accident happened at Boardman, a steel plate fabricator, at 33rd Street North and Broadway.

Losey was working for a subcontractor, F & H Insulation, of Kechi. He was sandblasting the tank when it fell off its support rack and pinned him underneath, according to police and a police report.

Losey, a nationally ranked boxer, is survived by his fiancee and two young daughters, said Lewis Hernandez, his boxing trainer.
